We help in three distinct yet integrated ways with our Key Stage
3, Youth Awards Scheme and the Work Experience facilities that
we offer at Amelia Trust Farm.
Key
Stage 3 is funded by the Vale of Glamorgan and
we can offer 20 youngsters, aged between 11 and 14, the
chance to receive a National Curriculum education in classrooms
that look out onto fields, with a pupil/teacher ratio
and a variety of complementary diversions that keep everyone
interested.
The offsite
projects are key to helping them integrate into society
and as well as visiting local places of potential future
employment, they are happy to lend a hand in a practical
way by offering assistance with gardening or house maintenance,
where a clear need exists. Each project aims to raise
their social awareness and develop skills for life. Much
of this work is funded by the Vale of Glamorgan but our
charitable arm has to cover the cost of some of the materials
and offsite costs.
Work experience
is offered to a wide range of young people, for example,
youngsters from the urban areas of South Wales who simply
do not fit into any of the structured mainstream programmes,or
perhaps those who are beyond school age and come to the
farm to work voluntarily. The aim is to find something
that they enjoy, can succeed in and thus build up their
confidence. Accreditation via the Youth Award Scheme allows
the young people and the outside world to acknowledge
and appreciate the efforts that they put in.
The farm provides a great arena in which to stage all of these
educational activities and we make our workshops and farming
activities available to all of the above.
We also have groups of adults with learning difficulties
who work in the garden project run by Innovate
Trust and the Screen Print co-operative, Positive
Images.
We cannot cover all the activities here but if you want to learn
more, especially if you think you can offer some practical help,
please call us on 01446 782030.
